Services & Support

Personalized Support:

Based on the recommendation from the National Association of School Psychologists, C.H.T.A. uses a collaborative approach for supporting students. In the Intervention Assistance Team process (IAT), students receive support whenever the need arises. If parents or teachers become concerned about an academic or behavioral area, either may request the team to form to discuss the matter and to develop an intervention plan addressing the needs of the child. Through the auxiliary services of the public school system, C.H.T.A. utilizes the expertise of a psychologist, social workers, and a speech therapist to help the team develop appropriate strategies. The team is comprised of the child's parents, teachers, school psychologist and speech pathologist, if needed, as well as an administrator. The school's administrator coordinates the IAT meetings.

C.H.T.A. utilizes standardized testing for tracking and evaluating comprehension and skills appropriate at each grade level. In addition to developing students' test-taking skills, this allows teachers and administrators to optimally assess, focus, and guide students in their academic progress in a more individualized fashion.

Lunch Program: Every parent is responsible for preparing a healthy and nutritious lunch for their child each day. Students are required to have all necessary utensils and napkins.

Parent’s Association: This active organization offers a way for parents to be involved in the school and volunteer in many roles.

Special Services: Support staff is available either through the school or on a fee-for-service basis. They include part time nurses, school psychologist, reading specialist, speech and language pathologist, academic tutors, and dance instruction.

C.H. Terrell Academy is a Title I program school.
